3M 8420 and 8430 cold-shrink insulating sleeves are EPDM sleeves that feature a unique cold-shrink connection system. The products are supplied pre-stretched on a retractable support coil, enabling efficient and easy installation. When the support coil is withdrawn after the tubing has been positioned, the tubing shrinks to form a watertight seal. The active deformation of the specially formulated material ensures a permanent seal and insulation from the environment.
3M 8420 and 8430 series cold shrink insulation sleeves are primarily useful for electrical insulation on all solid dielectric (rubber or plastic) insulated wires and cable splices up to 1,000 V. They are suitable for indoor and outdoor use. They often provide good physical protection and shielding from environmental influences for communication lines and other non-electrical applications (including cable sheath repairs). The operating temperature range is -40 Â°C to 90 Â°C. For applications where the product is continuously exposed to UV radiation, it should be wrapped with 3M ScotchÂ® Super 33+ vinyl insulating tape or 3M ScotchÂ® self-vulcanising silicone rubber tape 70, for example.
